3-1 series for Detroit so far. The game tied 1-1. at the end of the first, Dallas scored first, with a nice shot.. Detroit scored to return.. on the powerplay.

Turco:

  • good job keeping the play alive.. nice passes forward and going for the puck ..

Team:

Good

  • Good passes back … BUT
  • Turco playing puck in front .. keeping the play alive

Bad

  • Dallas needs to be more dangerous.. they can do it.. but it looks like it is inconsistent..
  • Detroit is dangerous about 70% of the time.. dallas 30% of the time… i.e. icetime in each area
  • Dallas needs to be more careful with penalties…  It got them badly in Game 1… NOT AGAIN DALLAS! …
  • Dallas doesn’t have enough backup for the forwards… … It was like 1 forward against the entire Detroit team…    The forward has no choice but to dump it in .. or try to take down the entire Detroit defence on his own.
  • Detroit dominating dallas with plenty of good chances and finding passing lanes
  • its good to pass back, sure better than playing it along the boards BUT
  • Try to have cherry pickers… people right beside the net…(i.e. like the Detroit goal).. having people like VULTURES close to the net

If a dallas forward is going towards the Detroit net.. there should be some backup… who MOVES UP.. or beside the forward…and ready and even CALLING for a pass!Instead of going behind the net.. when its a 1 on 1.. try to go for a shot ON NET…i.e. go for the (almost) guaranteed shot.. instead of a maybe

Turco can’t win at the Joe Louis arena?   If Dallas scores and makes a good lead…that will change quickly!

How Dallas 2008 can come back from a 3-0 deficit and win against Detroit in conference final..

In this post:
  • Some things if Dallas can achieve they can almost guarantee a diferent kind of game
  • What has Dallas been doing WRONG this whole time?

How can Dallas win Game 4, 2008 Versus Detroit and come back from a 3-0 deficit.
Dallas has NEVER come back from a 3-0 deficit.. supposedly Minnesota came back from a 2-0 deficit. ..
Dallas needs to WIN A GAME. They need to
  • SCORE FIRST.
  • GET A LEAD.
  • GET A HUGE LEAD AND PUT AWAY THE GAME WITH HARDCORE AMOUNT OF INSURANCE GOALS

Practice with their backup goalie.. teach Turco something he is doing wrong maybe.. or revamp the team’s entire strategy to be the BEST STRATEGEY INT HE WORLD THAT WILL KILL ANY TIME…  ANY TEAM.

  • Discover new dangerous players.. or line-ups that will work
  • score first
  • score quick ..like Detroit has been doing unfortunately
  • Score shorthanded.. Build some damned momentum!
  • Score right after faceoffss… Osgood obviously has plenty of reason to be overconfident by this time after all those consecutive wins…

Not to mention.. being read to have swept

Dallas and Colorado.. former cup winners (sort of.) recently I believe..

  • play a game within their own team
  • Turoc does the ‘pre-game’ skate
  • team practices penalty shots.. LEARN HOW TO SCORE DAMNI T
  • INDIVIDUALS WINNING BATTLES… … Dallas needs to make use of their FASTEST SKATERS, THAT CNA GO WITH LOADS OF SPEED… and outskate the Detroit defenders if caught behind..   i.e.

1 DALLAS FORWARD/DEFENDER.. with someone skating right side of the net to tip it in… even if the right man arrives a bit later..

  • EXTREMELY STRONG POINTS:
  • ALL DALLAS PLAYERS BECOMING EXPERTS IN STEALING THE PUCK FROM ANOTHER PLAYER

i.e. have 1 on 1 battles on how to steal the puck … Veteran versus Rookie..

Veteran Versus Veteran

… Have Turco take a shot on their backup goaltender.. so he can know how it is like taking shots or something a bit..

  • The return of Jere Lehtinen.. A veteran…
  • Turco plays the puck FORWARD.. NOT BEHIND THE DALLAS NET..KEEP THE PLAY GOING…
  • MORE ONE TIMERS
  • CRASH THE NET/OVERLOAD STRATEGY
  • Don’t just DUMP IN AND GO BEHIND TH ENET
  • PASS TO A HUMAN BEING.. NOT TO A PLACE ON THE ICE
  • Have some members of the team who take faceoffs.. practice.. you will notice that Detroit got WAVED FROM THE FACEOFF CIRCLE MANY TIMES due to their agressive faceoff strategy…

  • DALLAS SCORES FIRST.
  • EXTREMELY HARD HITTING…  that leads to turnovers in favour of Dallas.
  • PLAYERS DIVING TO BLOCK THE SHOT
  • DEFENDERS BLOCKING SHOTS
  • Dallas gains a lead of 2 or more goals.
  • A Dallas forward scores a hat trick..i.e. proving to himself. that he can score.. and then proving to those who assisted their good plays..

What has Dallas been doing WRONG this whole time?

Okay .. some quick tips after playing NHL 2008 for Dallas to win :P…

and after watching (almost) every single moment in games
1 through 3 …
  • have every player see oddman rushes opportunities both for Dallas and Detroit
  • screen Osgood
  • someone in front of the net(crash the net/ overload)

Screw it..get rid of their behind the net or along the board strategy.. MAJOR PROBLEM

Dallas has SCORED when did they nice clean passes.. and one timers. instead of fighting along the boards… and just dumping it in.. pretty much just passing the puck to Detroit for them to clear it…

  • cleaner passes,… team should practice passing
  • more faceoff wins
  • have defenders move up a bit… but don’t give up oddman rush..
  • BODY CHEKC THE HELL OUT OF DETROIT PLAYERS>.hit them so hard they can’t get up.. and since the game is in dallas.. it should be okay.. of course CLEAN HITS..  they can’t afford another powerplay fiasco..
What has Dallas been doing WRONG this whole time?

-Dallas  has been fine.. with those one timers.. and keeping the puck in the Detroit for a very long time, in fact they were extremely dangerous when they did this BUT..

one hit from a Detroit player.. leads to a turnover therefore

Nine rules of sleep hygiene [Repost]

    Men’s Health
    Nine rules of sleep hygiene
    1. Do not go to bed until you are drowsy.
Most insomniacs go to bed before they are sleepy in an attempt to catch up on lost sleep time and to relieve their sense of tiredness and fatigue. However, typically, when they go to bed they don’t sleep, but worry about issues in their daily lives and, in particular, their anticipated poor sleep ahead. This worry causes emotional arousal that prevents the passive sleep process from occurring.
Some insomniacs have difficulty distinguishing between fatigue and drowsiness, and may need help in making the distinction between these two states, so that they will go to bed when “sleepy-tired” rather than when fatigued. Delaying going to bed until drowsy not only increases the chances of falling asleep, but also strengthens the association between bed and sleepiness (rather than bed and wakefulness, as it is for most insomniacs).
    2. Get up at the same time each morning, including weekends.
Insomniacs should always place the alarm clock away from the bed so that the sleeper must get up to turn it off. Maintaining a reasonably early awakening time is one of the important time cues for the 24-hour circadian sleep-wake rhythm. Breaking this rule causes sleep disruption in both good and poor sleepers.
The common experience of “Sunday night insomnia, Monday morning blues” is caused by ignoring this rule. The sleeper goes to bed at progressively later times during the weekend, and sleeps in the following morning. By Sunday night, the adapted circadian rhythm is expecting to begin the sleep period beginning at, say, 1:00 am and end at 9:00 am. However, on Sunday night the sleeper wants to go to sleep at 11:00 pm and awaken for work at 7:00 but is unable to fall asleep until the reset time of 1:00 am. Thus, he or she awakens, relatively sleep deprived, at 7:00 with “the blues.”
    3. Do not take naps.
Napping disrupts the sleep-wake cycle, particularly if the nap occurs more than 10 hours after the major sleep period. Most insomniacs nap at irregular times, causing further disruption of the sleep-wake cycle. Problem sleepers should eliminate this behaviour and substitute gentle exercise instead.
The remaining rules concern lifestyle measures and the sleeping environment.
    4. Reduce or eliminate the use of alcohol.
Do not drink alcohol later than 2 hours before bedtime.
    5. Reduce or eliminate the use of caffeine.
Do not consume caffeine after about 4:00 pm.
    6. Reduce or eliminate the use of nicotine.
Do not smoke within 4 hours of your bedtime.
    7. Exercise regularly.
Try to avoid strenuous physical exertion after 6:00 pm.
    8. Eat a light carbohydrate snack.
A snack such as crackers and milk may help promote sleep in those who tend to eat most in the second half of the day.
    9. Adjust the sleep environment.
Your environment should be comfortably warm (or acool), with minimal levels of light and noise.

Parents say focus on school and yet we need money

    This post relates to:

    • parenting
    • Discipline
    • Should I let my teens work? At what age?
    • Should I make my teens work?
    • If I can afford it should I just pay my teens fees so that he or she can focus on school?

This is a major section which the article intended to introduce, I recommend reading the rest of the post and coming back to this ;-)
Parents say focus on school and yet we need money

    Okay,Why teenagers should get jobs?

    • Affordability
    • A higher lifestyle

Your parents say “focus on school” , “don’t worry about me… We will take care of it”…
Well you want a Mercedes-Benz  … A car which your parents cannot afford… Or maybe they can afford but refuse to pay insurance.. For it.. or maybe

    • you want to get the most expensive car..
    • or maybe you want to move out into an apartment and get your freedom, free from your parents rules.. Etc.   or maybe you want to .. Eat fast food whenever you want…
    • Or take your girlfriend/boyfriend to an expensive restaurant… or get them an expensive present.

Well, now you see! Parents unless extremely generous and wealthy..should let their children work!

Okay, so this will only apply to a few of you ..with some interesting parents.
It looks like some parents say “focus on school” …when their children ask to get jobs. It is all a matter of intelligence and expectations.

A straight ‘A’ student,  can obviously afford to take on more responsibility, whereas someone getting 3 C’s might consider focusing more on school.

However, if barely passing is fine by you and perhaps your parents,.. Then sure, .. Get a job and keep barely passing and get your degree…   but you will be sacrificing the learning of skills and crucial experience, as well as confidence to actually do what the degree or diploma has intended to train you on!

Should you let your children work?
YES. It will allow them to realize the value of money. Maybe you have a son or daughter who got their laptop stolen by leaving it on a table. They didn’t realize that it was your HARD EARNED MONEY. Maybe if they worked all those hours they would realize …

    • Getting a job= learn the value of money
    • Getting a job also can help the teenager learn the the difference between minimum wage salaries and higher salaries.. And thus realize the value of education.

Should I make my teens work?

If they are living under your roof, some parents decide to charge the children rent, or kick them out of the house.  This is especially true for children who FAIL TO COMPLETE THEIR EDUCATION. I.e. College dropouts… Or high-school dropouts.

In short, YES, unless the teenager for some miraculous reason has better things to do. Perhaps summer school if they are taking a full load of courses, then maybe they can sit at home and focus on their work, and see a Math tutor.
However, with the exception of school, or maybe a family vacation (which would force the teenager to quit their job in order to travel) .. Teenagers SHOULD be working.

    More proof!

    • sit at home and do nothing!!

Okay,  so your teenager is going to just sit at home and do nothing. Maybe Party with friends all day? Your teenager plays video games and watches TV their entire life…  There are plenty of more productive things to do then that.

    • teenagers and their high spending habits?

Your son wants an XBOX 360 and all of the coolest games, your daughter wants a Nintendo Wii and all the coolest games.. Simple: tell them to get jobs.

Possible Risks of getting jobs for teenagers?

    • Transportation problems i.e. Teenagers who cannot drive …  Although hopefully you are in an area where they can walk or bike to the bus stop.

Possible benefits of Getting Jobs for Teenagers

    • improve resume
    • Improve cover letter
    • Improved interview skills
    • Improved ability to ’sell yourself’
    • Improved finances …

If I can afford it should I just pay my teens fees so that he or she can focus on school?

Dallas Stars versus Detroit Red Wings Game 2 2008 Playoffs

    After the first period:…

at 8:20 left in the first period.. Game 2 Dallas Versus Detroit 2008
Dallas scores after a Power play goal… To tie the game 1-1
Dallas was down 0-1 in the series against Detroit.

Dallas lost after 3 power play goals in game 1 .. Detroit on another power play… … Detroit scores… Dallas should not have let Detroit get such long passes.

Dallas needs to avoid penalties and steep up their offensive  more… Getting the puck in the center and NOT along the sidelines.

What does Dallas need to do?

    • Avoid getting penalties
    • Play the puck along the center for more dangerous scoring chances… Hard shots could be good..
    • Maybe play Riberio with Morrow .. Not sure if they do..
    • Get way more dangerous offense.
    • Do not play puck along the boards too much..just dumping it in hasn’t been strong enough..
    • more solid passing…
    • Play d fence up when offense isn’t enough
    • Get the puck out of their zone quickly
    • More shots on goal
    • Harder hits.. Sometimes Detroit gained chances due to physical force

Dallas Stars should have games in between their team to teach them some stronger plays…and play around with who works well together.

    • Dallas Stars should review goals scored on Marty Turbo and have the Dallas Stars try to score in similar ways, so Marty could maybe prepare
    • Dallas should review goals scored against Detroit and see why.. And hopefully try to repeat their plays that works out for them.

    Dallas Weakness:

Javascript differences between Firefox and IE

What are the differences between Javascript in Firefox and Internet Explorer?

Have a script that works in Firefox BUT not in Internet Explorer?

    Common reasons

    • you used t1 instead of document.getElementById(’t1′)

Firefox is somehow able to recognize the t1… whereas IE takes scope into consideration so use
document.getElementById(’whatever’)   and make sure the id matches the property
    <input type=”button id=”whatever” name=”whatever” />
it appears name is optional :-)… I just have a habit of putting it in.

    • You index a String as an array

Firefox supports array indexing of strings
    For example,
    in firefox

    if you had:
    var s=”cool”
    s=s[0]+s
    you would get “ccool”

    but in IE:
    var s=”cool”
    s=s[0]+s
    you would get “undefinedcool”
it concatenates “undefined” that s[0] is.. with s which is “cool”

why? How do you fix it?
    USE StringName.charAt(index) instead of StringName[index]
    var s=”cool”
    s=s.charAt[0]+s

Well I explained it nicely..so if you want to  summarize again … read on..otherwise  move on to another great post ;) and maybe comment if this was useful to you etc.

1)IE doesn’t handle indexing of strings.. without the use of the function call to

    charAt..
    whereas firefox DOES handle that..

I suppose you could override charAt for compatability?

    2) IE has more trouble with document.getElementById(’t2′)

in firefox it looks like you can say ‘t2′ and it will know what you mean..

    3) not sure for charAt if its an array or string?
often the CONTEXT can help A LOT

    tempA[before++]=a[start]+b.charAt(q)

    Note:
    DO NOT TRY:
    b.charAt[q]
because I am pretty sure it won’t work… you would only try that if you are lazy I gues.

Job Site Listing Search Feature Reccomendations

What search features should job posting sites offer?
SenecaCareerLink available to Seneca students provides a decent database of jobs.
Search features I reccomend for job sites
    -Full Time –>Summer job
    -Part-Time –>Summer job
Sites such as craigslist.com make it very difficult for users to quickly find full-time summer jobs.
Some job sites offer a ’seasonal’ section, which is pretty much a summer job offering.
There are just some quick suggestions.
Features of job sites from the top of my mind :
-obviously as many sites have the ability to search for jobs by category
-ability to search for summer jobs
-ability to filter jobs by area
-perhaps ability to filter by jobs which provide compensation for transportation i.e. Downtown travel via transit can get expensive, and a transit pass costs maybe $110 .. Would the company provide financial compensation for such travel?
-essentially I am getting at advanced features, to find particular things about a job that most sites will fail to provide
-i.e. Searching for ‘telecommuting jobs’ which are jobs that you can work from home.
(craigslist actually offers such a feature)
however for such online jobs, you need proof that you will be paid, or the person you are working for could just take your work and ..disappear…

Typing with your eyes closed — Good or bad.

WHY TYPE WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED?

The majority of this post was typed with my eyes closed, although for better organization purposes, I opened them a bit :P.

I will provide some arguments that may convince you to type sometimes with your eyes closed. It sure improves concentration. This post would be half as full of support if it were typed with my eyes open! :P .. i.e. More brain cells able to be used somehow…  Maybe I am just a closed eye enthusiast.. But it sure seems to work.

Why type with your eyes close? On Google you will notice “can you type this sentence with your eyes closed?” Has become a challenge for people to accomplish. Well, I took a typing class or whatever, just some Mavis Beacon teaches typing , and I memorized ..well I can basically type with my eyes closed although most the letters ..well sometimes I need to think a it longer to know where the letters are.
    Advantages:
-It helps improve your typing speed and accuracy and with an instant spell checker such as As-U-Type(paid software), you can instantly correct misspelled words, at least the typical misspellings.
    -Improve your flow of thoughts
-do more thinking and less looking at a screen
-relieve eye strain or reduce eye strain
-should you ever become blind …or have poor vision, at least you can type really fast
-some personal experiments found that the flow Of thoughts is better with your eyes closed.
-reduces laziness to some extent because you can relax.
-for brainstorming, well accuracy isn’t too important and if it isn’t completely wrong you can improve the sped of your brainstorming.
    Disadvantages:
-The average person may not have the ability to type with their eyes closed…well you never know till you try.
-You could make mistakes in places where the accuracy of your typing is important
Typing with your eyes closed is one way to prove you have a strong typing speed. In addition, you can also check your accuracy.
That way you can train yourself to not even look at the keys and type at a high pay.. you can also learn the technique to think fast and also type at a fast rate. In addition, you alleviate the mental block because you dont stare at the screen and then maybe decide to ‘take a break’ and end up talking on MSN instant messenger with friends.
This also gets into a job with blind people, all they need is a machine to read the words that they type, and they could perhaps get a data entry job, assuming that the reading text-to-speech character is able to put the words which cannot be understood by their pronounciation into
a spelling form where they say each letter of the word such as a-p-p-l-e for the word ‘apple’.
